Mature Biondi Santi with perfect provenance

Screen Shot 2015-07-21 at 11.58.48

“ Biondi-Santi is the royal family of Montalcino. “ Antonio Galloni

The wines of Biondi Santi are legendary. Wines have been made here since the mid 1800’s and was the estate that invented ‘Brunello di Montalcino’, which has seen demand rise incredibly in the last 12 months.

The Italian specialist Antonio Galloni is a huge admirer and wrote eloquently on the estate and it’s wine earlier this year:

The Biondi-Santi Brunellos are known for their sense of classic austerity, and, above all else, their ability to age. Indeed, even at 30, 40 and 50 years of age, the wines retain searing acidity and considerable tannin. Italian wines in general are meant for the dinner table, and that is certainly the case here. The flagship Riserva is sourced from the estate’s oldest vines, which sit at 500 meters above sea level on soils that consist mostly of galestro, a mix of rocks and sand that is characteristic of certain spots in Tuscany. The Riserva is fermented in wood uprights and aged in neutral oak casks. During the era in which these wines were made, the malolactic fermentations were spontaneous and mostly occurred in the spring following the harvest. Stylistically, these fine, mature Riservas show the wilder, more powerful side of Sangiovese.” Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media March 2015

All wines are packaged in original cartons from the estate with polstyrene bottle holders to ensure safe transit.

Memento Mori 2012

imgres

With only 660 cases produced we are excited to offer the delicious and highly sought after, Memento Mori. The goal of wine maker Sam Kaplan is simple, to craft the greatest Cabernet Sauvignon possible working with only the best fruit and never cutting corners. This philosophy seems to have paid off, in February 2015 five cases of Memento Mori sold for an eye watering $80,000 at the Premiere Napa Valley Auction.

"The 2012 Memento Mori Cabernet Sauvignon is our most powerful vintage to date.  It is a winemaker's dream to work with fruit of this quality.  With a near perfect growing vintage, this 2012 exhibits seductive aromatics of nutmeg, dark raspberries, hints of chocolate, sweet ripe plums and red licorice. Very bold and perfectly balanced on the palate, solidly structured yet plush as velvet, displaying very finely grained tannins. Only 660 cases produced” Sam Kaplan, Winemaker

 40 x 3 Memento Mori 2012 @ £395 per case IB and OWC

For orders more than 8 x 3 @ £360 per case

"Not surprisingly, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is deeper, richer and more opaque purple-colored than the 2011, displaying lots of blueberry, crème de cassis, licorice, camphor, barbecue smoke and a touch of wood. Full-bodied and ostentatious with great density, purity and palate presence, it can be enjoyed over the next 10-15 years." Robert Parker, Score: 95 points

Offered subject to remaining unsold and available ex LCB in 4 weeks.
